PPSC Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers donate over 14,000 hours each year valued at $100,000. The City of Petaluma provides in-kind support in the form of rent.
Volunteers provide an invaluable asset to PPSC and to our communtity. There are many opportunities to volunteer in addition to the list below. Call the office at (707) 765-8488 to discuss how your particular skills and talents can be utilized.


Senior Day Program Presenters

Volunteer program presenters often have special hobbies that they are willing to display or demonstrate. Others present "arm-chair travel" slide shows, play musical instruments, lead sing-a-longs, lead a craft activity or tell stories. Brownie and Cub-Scout troops are always welcome.
Time commitment: 45-60 minutes, one day per month.

Senior Day Volunteer Buddy

Attend the Senior Day Program one day per week or more on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 10:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M.. A Senior Day Buddy helps serve coffee and lunch, helps give out program materials, talks to frail seniors, walks beside frail elders going to-and-from building to bus and on field trips. Buddies sometimes like to help with the dishes after lunch. The Senior Day Program provides an active and up-lifting four hour shift of volunteering.
Time commitment: 4 hours at a time, one or more days per week.

Meals On Wheels Drivers

Deliver hot meals to home bound seniors in Petaluma, one or more days per month.
Time commitment: one and one-half to two hours of time.
Requirements: your own car, current license and proof of insurance.
PPSC will reimburse milage.

Kitchen Aide

Petaluma People Services Center operates a kitchen and prepares over 27,000 hot meals for seniors in the Petaluma area. PPSC delivers Meals On Wheels and also serves meals in its Dining Site at Lucchesi Senior Center.

Volunteers choose hours and days to work in commercial kitchen between 10:00 A.M. and 3:30 P.M., Monday through Friday. Duties may include operating dishwasher, serving food, packing lunches for home delivered meals, sweeping floors, storing food, cleaning equipment. No past experience is necessary.

Time commitment: Your choice.
Requirements: must be reliable, honest and able to follow procedures required by state and federal food regulations.
Must like working with seniors.

Special Event Helpers

Petaluma People Services Center often holds fund raising activities. On call volunteers may choose jobs in which to help.
Areas of need include:
developing and organizing materials, selling tickets, decorating, making telephone calls, helping set-up or helping to tear-down props, soliciting door prizes. Duties vary.

Time commitment: Hours and job assignments will vary.
Requirements: Desire to volunteer your time to help your community.

Volunteer Receptionist

Greet visitors, answer phones, provide information to callers, perform simple clerical tasks at desk between phone calls.

Time commitment: Schedule to be determined to work with your availability. Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M.
Requirements:

  • must have good communication skills
  • must be willing to learn basic information and referral techniques
  • must be able to work in busy environment.
